Silver Travel Advisor is set to open its second shop in time for peaks, with further branches tipped for the future.

The agency, which specialises in the over-50s market, expects to welcome customers to its premises in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, from the end of October or the beginning of November.

Silver Travel Advisor managing director Kerry Gallagher said the business was in “active growth mode” after opening its first shop in Fulwood, Sheffield, last year.

Asked how many branches there could eventually be, she said: “I don’t think double digits would be unrealistic.”

Southwell was chosen as the location for the second shop because it is a “bustling” market town, Gallagher said, which has not had an agency for several years.

Taking the same approach as the Fulwood shop, the new branch will focus on selling complex tailor-made itineraries, touring holidays and cruises.

The business is trying to recruit a senior travel agent as well as a further full-time staff member or two part-time employees.

“We’ll be up and running by peaks, which is a massive opportunity for us,” said Gallagher, adding that the first three months of trading would give an idea of the strength of local demand.

“I really do think we’ve got the location spot on and that’s the most important thing for us,” she said. “We’ve got an untapped market we can get our teeth stuck into.”

She revealed she was “really pleased” with the Fulwood store’s performance to date, which helped to strengthen the case for continued expansion.

A third or fourth shop could “absolutely” be added next year, with further branches expected later.

The business also currently has 16 homeworkers.
